With heartfelt sympathy to the MacKaig family. Mr. MacKaig’s fervor for music performance lives on in many of his students, especially those who, like myself, continue in music to this day. I have never forgotten that he saw something in me others did not, and took a chance even though I did not possess standard scholastic music prerequisites. My ears are so much bigger for the time I spent with him and I could not be more grateful. Peace to him on his journey. Cathy LaManna

This man was a great influence in my life, he is the reason I still play and preform to this day. He made me believe in my talent and to make it grow, my words can't really express what Mr. Mackaig did for my life and still does! I will forever remember his words and how he taught me to feel the music not just play it! Thank you sir. And my you rest in peace! Your willing pupil! Peter J. Reynolds

I extend my sympathy to all of you who have lost a great man. Mac was the best man at my marriage to Ron Crowley, who played with Mac in Dick Kowell's  band  as it provided music at Drumlins on Saturday nights. There were many nights when I sat on the sidelines listening to the group having a great time working with "the book" which was their collection of music. Mac was one of the happiest members of the group. He is in my prayers.

My condolences to the MacKaig family. Your father was a wonderful man and a great teacher. I was a fourth grade student at the Jordan School when he started our band. He came to our houses and gave us lessons during the summer. I have many happy memories of those band days and our wonderful Mr. MacKaig.

My condolences to the MacKaig family.  As a colleague of Ferm's at Solvay HighSchool, I could always rely on him for advise when we had our morning coffee (and sometimes even on the golf course at Westvale).  Always a gentle person to a fault. He will be missed.

Mack was a great talent and a true gentleman. I always looked forward to the occasional call from another great local musician, Jack Kreischer, because I knew Mack would be on the bandstand. Jack played piano like he lived life - with impeccable elegance and compassion. I am proud to have known him and to have shared the joy of music with him.

My sincere sympathy to Mr. MacKaig's family. Mr. Mackaig was my music teacher at Solvay High School. He taught me flute and I joined his concert band and marching band. He was a great teacher with a warm and caring personality and one who always encouraged his students to be the best. He was one of my favorite teachers. RIP

Dear David & Robbie, I was sad to read about your Dad today,  I have known your Dad for as long as I can remember, from Solvay High to all the years at Westvale, he was one of the nicest people, always a kind word and a smile when he came in the club house, and what a golfer, you never knew if Mac played good or bad, he maintained the same demeanor. Here's to you Mac to a life well lived. Sincerely, Sue Tacy Ostuni

When your Dad arrived at Solvay High he put together a Marching band and a Jazz band. I'm proud to say that I was a member of both bands.  Mr. Mac believed in and helped many of his musical students to achieve their goals.  He once had three eighth graders in jr/sr all county band (Mike Dantuano, Mike Miller and myself). The man could play piano like no other.  Be proud to have had him for your Dad,

To Mr. MacKaig's family, know that your Dad had a profound effect on the lives of students at Solvay High School. He made it cool to be in Arts and Music when it was cool to be a jock. Supremely talented and an all-around great guy, he cultivated some of the finest musicians we had to offer. Our Foreign Student Show would never be the same without him! God Bless him for his service to our country and for the haven he maintained in our band room. He was a great man.
