Obituary of Doris Nettie Gorke

Doris Nettie Gorke Jan. 21, 1938 – May 4, 2021. 

83 years old.

Born to Newton and Ethel Filkins.

Doris graduated from cosmetology school, became a licensed hairdresser and opened a salon in her home.  Later in life when her daughters were on their own, Doris returned to school studying and completing homework assignments at the kitchen table with her son Vance.  She passed the state boards to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Doris excelled as a nurse and went on to earn her RN degree at SUNY Morrisville.  She retired after many years as a nurse in various longterm care facilities and hospitals in the Syracuse area and become a nanny in the NYC suburban area. 

Predeceased by her daughter Sherry Gorke Kernes, Doris is survived by daughters Cindy Gorke Kitt, Linda Gorke Stanley, son Vance K. Gorke (Lisa), 10 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. 

Doris was devoted to her family and will be missed.
