Obituary of Perry Gilbert Stonehocker

Perry Gilbert Stonehocker, 96, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in Fayetteville, NY surrounded by his family. He was born in Finney Co., KS, June 30, 1917, the son of Perry and Hannah (Reynolds) Stonehocker. Perry was raised on the family farm, east of Friend, KS. He graduated in 1935 from Shallow Water High School, Shallow Water, KS and in 1938 from Salt Lake Business College in Hutchinson, KS. He was a long time resident of Manhattan, KS and he moved to Fayetteville, NY in 1998. In Dec. 1941 he enlisted in the Navy and served in Hawaii during WWII as a Chief Petty Officer. After the war, Perry returned to Garden City, KS where he married Allabelle Wristen. Perry was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Kiwanis Club and he was active in the Boy Scouts for many years in Manhattan, KS. Perry retired from the Kansas State Employment Office in 1986 where he assisted military veterans. Perry enjoyed traveling with his wife, which included trips to England, South America and driving from coast to coast in the US and Canada. Perry also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. His wife passed away in 1996 and soon after he moved to Fayetteville, NY where he lived at Maple Downs Senior Living home near his daughter, Ann and her family. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Allabelle Wristen and his brother, Jerome Stonehocker of Garden City, KS. He is survived by his sister, Martha Krusemark of Olathe, KS; his sister-in-law, Orrilla Stonehocker a long time resident of Garden City, KS; his daughter, Ann Jubelt (Burk) of Fayetteville, NY; his son, James Stonehocker (Deborah) of Hendersonville, TN; and his son, Robert Stonehocker of Bennington, VT. He is also survived by his six grandchildren and their spouses, Lindsay Jubelt of NY, NY, Matthew Jubelt (Leah) of Fayetteville, NY, Kathryn McConnell (Christian) of San Antonio, TX, Austin Stonehocker of Hendersonville, TN, Lisa Cichon (Nathan) of Durham, NC, Sarah Stonehocker (Elizabeth DeBerry) of San Francisco, CA as well as five great-grandchildren, Willa, Etta and Luke Jubelt and Davis and Amelia Cichon.
