Obituary of Anthony R. Russo

Anthony R. 'Butch' Russo, 72, of Syracuse, NY, went home on Friday, April 10th after an extended illness. A proud Army Veteran he served his country as he served others with warmth, compassion, humor and love. Tony was multitalented. In his youth on the south side he loved to play baseball and he could be heard harmonizing Doo Wop on its street corners. A graduate of St. Anthony's of Padua. He grew up to be a diehard Yankees fan. A warm and winning smile assured his success as 'Champagne Tony' on Auto Row putting a hassle in each car he sold. Ironically, he later fulfilled his hard won dream of becoming a certified alcohol and substance abuse counselor for Arbor House in Hannibal, NY. Surviving are his devoted wife of 25 years, Nedra (Dee) Russo; their daughters, Tina (Jules) Loftin, Toni (Rodney) Waters and Constance Russo; a step-son, John (Cathy) DeLong; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by is beloved pet Sanoli, a retriever who captured his heart. A funeral service will be held Thursday, April 16, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery where friend, Father David James, will officiate in the presence of the Honor Guard. The family would like to thank the Community Living Center and loving staff at the VA for their extra ordinary care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to them on the 8th floor at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Immediately following the services a repast will be held at the Loftin home.
