Obituary of David L. Quinones

David L. Quinones January 17, 1946 - September 8, 2012 On September 8th, 2012 David Lawrence Quinones of Syracuse, NY, passed on to a better place caused by a genetic heart disease at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Passaic, New Jersey on January 17th, 1946, he resided in West Milford Township, New Jersey. He attended Southern Illinois University before entering the US Army, Military Intelligence as a Special Agent, Counter Intelligence, stationed in Brooklyn and Manhattan. He briefly worked with the FBI before moving to Syracuse in 1971. He obtained a position as the Chief Investigator for 33 years with the Human Rights Commission of Onondaga County and Syracuse, retiring in 2003. While in Syracuse, he graduated in 1976 from Syracuse University, Maxwell School, completing a midcareer degree in Public Administration. After retirement, he took a position as Harbormaster for Onondaga Lake Park Marina for 6 years. He was an avid fisher, hunter, camper, and enjoyed all outdoor sports. David was a NYS licensed hunting and fishing guide for many years. He was a past commander of Syracuse Post 41, American Legion, an 11 gallon Red Cross Blood Donor, and past President of Syracuse Developmental Center's Human Rights Committee. David is survived by his nieces, Jamie Lynn (Craig) Phinney of Skaneateles and Heidi Anderson of Syracuse; nephews, Jon (Wendy) Anderson of Burlinton, Vermont, as well as nieces and nephews, Pam, Joi, Dana and Gregg distributed throughout the USA, including Hawaii and Ireland; he also has 12 great nieces as well as a great great niece and great great nephew. He was particuraly pleased with his warm relationship with his ex-wife Vivian Jakway and her husband Gary Martin, and one of David's close friends. brother-in-law, Douglas "Dougo" Jakway. David was predeceased by his parents, Helen E. Pooley and Walter A. Quinones, his brother, Gabriel W. Quinones, and sister, Helen Q. Anderson. Although David donated his body to the Upstate School of Medicine, there will be a celebration of life and American Legion Service on Saturday September 15th, 2012 at 6 p.m. from the A. Dewitt Memorial Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 4612 S. Salina St, Syracuse. Calling Hours will be Saturday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home before services.
