Obituary of Robert Lothes

Robert (Bob) Lothes, age 95 of Manlius, NY, died on September 5, 2015. He and his wife, Gladys, grew up on farms in southern Ohio. They married during World War II. Gladys served as a nurse while Bob served in Europe with a signal service battalion, achieving the rank of Captain. After the war, they settled in the Syracuse, New York area where Bob earned his Ph.D. and worked as a professor of electrical engineering at Syracuse University. He subsequently went to work in the heavy military division of General Electric, specializing in radar and missile defense. He then became a research engineer at Syracuse University Research Corporation and, later, Research Associates of Syracuse. He retired in 1984 from Syracuse Research Corporation. Bob was past president of The Technology Club of Syracuse. Bob never lost his love of farming and rural life, was an avid gardener, raised beef cattle, and was a beekeeper. He was a 4-H club leader while raising his family on their small farm. He also enjoyed painting water color. Bob suffered the loss of Gladys, his wife of 69 years, in 2012. They leave behind sons, Charles, Stephen, and daughter, Nancy. That generation gave them six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bob requested a private burial. He further requested that, at a future date, family members join to review life's memories. Contributions in Bob's name may be made to the Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 11122, Syracuse, NY 13218-9903 or online at rmlifechanging.org.
