Obituary of Ingrid Montague

Ingrid (Hesselberg) Montague, 82, of DeWitt, New York, died suddenly on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, in her home. She was born on Staten Island, New York to Thurid and Anton Hesselberg; she then lived in Brooklyn, New York and attended Packer Collegiate Institute (Class of 1949). Ingrid had strong ties to her Norwegian heritage; she had a large, extended family in Norway and attended art school in Bergen as a young adult. She was a long-time member of the Sons of Norway. Ingrid attended Syracuse University, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity, Rho Chapter. She continued to live in the Syracuse, New York area, where she married and raised her family. She moved to her DeWitt home in 1968. Ingrid worked for many years at St. Paul`s Insurance Company. In her retirement, she enjoyed travelling with her friends and family. Her sweet and gentle nature made her a beloved mother and much-adored grandmother. She loved visits with her family. Ingrid was an avid Bridge player and considered a favorite partner by many. She played with the `Suburbanites`, and the Fayetteville and Manlius Senior Centers. Ingrid is survived by her son Erik, her daughters Lisa (Doug Scott) and Kim (Mark Eckerle), and her grandchildren Lindsay Scott, and Astrid and Anton Eckerle. Her youngest son, Todd, died at birth. Other extended family include Joan M. and John E. Casey. Calling hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 at A. Dewitt Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 4612 South Salina Street, Syracuse, New York 13205 followed by a service at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Onondaga Valley Cemetery, 2500 Valley Drive, Syracuse, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one's favorite charity.
