Obituary of Clay Putman

Our beloved Clay departed this life on Sunday, January 24th 2021 to be with our lord. Clay was born on January 1st, 1946 to the late James Wheeler Putman and Lottie Mae Putman in Laurens SC. Clay attended schools in Laurens County during the great migration.  In the early years, Clay and members of his family relocated to Syracuse, NY and began a life rooted in faith, family and hard work. Clay dedicated many years to his career mastering the art of paving and excavation.  In later years he was affectionately known as roller man.  Throughout his life he's been a son, father, brother, uncle, cousin grandpa, great grandpa and a great neighbor and friend.  Clay was a wonderful husband to Annie P.  A father of 4 beautiful children, then met the woman whom he spent over 25 blessed years with Mrs. Marcia Putman and also became a stepdad to 4 more children through their union. Clay is preceded in death by his parents, the late James Wheeler and Lottie Mae Jones Putman, his brother David Putman, two sisters, Bobbie Jean Woodruff and Mary Shaw.  He’s also proceeded by his son, Christopher Mclaurin and grandson, Christopher Putman.  He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marcia Putman , his children, John Putman , Selene Putman of Monroe Georgia his brother, Rosevelt (Debra) Putman of Syracuse, four sons, John Putman, Chris Putman, Travis Putman, James Mclaurin, three daughters Selene Putman and Joyce and Precious Mclaurin , one Brother, JW Putman, three sisters, Joan Stoddard, Juanita Sullivan and Edith Putman all of SC, one sister, Shirly Cobbs of Indiana and a whole host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends to cherish his memory.

Calling Hours will be Tuesday, February 2, 2021 from 4 to 7PM at A. Dewitt Memorial Funeral Home, 4612 S. Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13205.  Funeral Services will be Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at 12noon at the funeral home.
