Edward Presbyla, Sr.

Obituary of Edward Joseph Presbyla, Sr.

Edward (Ed) Joseph Presbyla, Sr.,88, a.k.a. “Pop-Pop” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away at home March 24, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Stanley George and Wanda A. (Galuski) Presbyla.

Ed loved the Red Sox (and debating their rivalry with his Yankees fan grandson, Michael, Jr. and great grandsons Daniel and Zachary!); fishing with his two sons and wife, his grandsons, and, later, with his great-grandchildren; playing blackjack; Syracuse University sports; watching football; and his once a day bottle of Corona. In his younger years he enjoyed rollercoasters, bowling, and golf. In his golden years he enjoyed going to the park with his beloved wife. Ed was the true definition of what a family man is and his family always came first.

He was a graduate of Eastwood High School (1948) and married his high school sweetheart, with whom he was still deeply in love after 70 years of marriage. Together since they were 15 years old, their story was one of true love. An extremely hard worker, Ed owned Syracuse Auto Body, retiring after 50 plus years.

Ed is survived by his beautiful bride, Helen (D’Alfo); his son and best friend Michael, Sr. of Lakeland, FL; daughter in law Peggy of Cicero; four beautiful grandchildren: Lauri (Donald) Masters of Cicero; Cheryl (Dan) of Liverpool; Lisa (Jerome) Watts of Clay; and Michael, Jr. (Staci) of Riverview, FL; seven cherished great-grandchildren: Daniel, Zachary, Shayla, Mykenzie, Donovan, Ava, and Rylan; sisters Dorothy Dias of Massachusetts and Mary Ann “Murphy” Hannay of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his eldest son Edward, Jr. (2016), who he missed dearly every day; brother George Presbyla; and daughter in law Dianne Presbyla.

His family will always remember Ed’s constant smile (noted by many strangers, too); his singing and joking; his playing on the floor with his great-grandchildren into his 80s; his generosity and selflessness; and his strong will to live to the very end.

Per Ed’s wishes, there will be no services. The family requests that you share your memories and stories on the tribute wall at www.adewittmemorial.com

Memorial donations in Ed’s name may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
